Butcher Impresses at Super Late Model Debut

Holbrook, NSW, Australia (December 19th, 2017)

Hot off the heels of a successful streak of Legend Car races, Australian racer, Bronson Butcher, made his debut in the hugely competitive Super Late Model ranks at Southern National Motorsport Parks marquee event, The Thanksgiving Classic.

The newly assembled GMS Racing Driver Development team had a successful test earlier in the week and were confident heading into the weekends event, ending final practice 3rd on the time sheets. Butcher qualified his #16 Butch Lindley inspired Chevrolet in 3rd, missing the top spot by only half a tenth of a second; Butchers first attempt at single lap qualifying.

Butcher Dominates 2017 US Legends Asphalt Nationals

Statesville, NC (November 1st, 2017)

The biggest weekend in US Legend Car racing converged on the Las Vegas Motor Speedways famed 3/8 mile short-track ‘The Bullring’, familiar territory for 24 year old Australian racer Bronson Butcher.

Months of preparation proved worthwhile as Butcher wasted no time getting his #23 GMS Racing Legend Car up to speed during Thursdays practice sessions, fine tuning the cars setup and spending most of the day in the top 5 on the time sheets. However, it was Fridays qualifying day where the Aussie turned heads throughout the garage, setting a blistering lap time of 16.659 to claim the Fastest Qualifier Award for the Semi-Pro division.

Starting heat 1 from the front row, Butcher lead all 8 laps to claim the win. An inverted starting order for heat 2 saw Bronson start at the rear of the 8 car field. Not to be deterred, the #23 found its way to the lead on the last lap to round out a perfect points day and earning pole position for the 35-lap main event. “Track position is huge here at the bullring so to be going into the feature race tomorrow with the pole is a huge relief” stated Butcher.

Las Vegas Night of Fire

Earlier in the year when I was working on my schedule for the season, I saw an opportunity to compete in Las Vegas Motor Speedways Night of Fire, one of The Bullrings marquee events at the famed short track, and with the cooperation of GMS Racing I was able to fly from Daytona, after the NASCAR Xfinity Series race to Las Vegas.

This race turned out to be somewhat of a homecoming for myself, the first time I competed and my first win in Legend Cars was at The Bullring, almost 10 years ago, so it was a lot of fun to come back and work with TJ Clark and the Spencer Clark Driven Development team again.

I certainly felt right at home when I got to hit the racetrack, topping both practice sessions and qualifying 2nd, .04sec off the fastest time, a 75% field invert would mean I would start the feature event from 11th, being sure to make for an exciting race.
